A massive "thank you" for a massive effort
We really cannot thank the enthusiastic staff and generous customers of Whole Foods Market Park Ridge enough for every dollar raised during the Feed 4 More event. These funds will go to good use and will allow NHCFP to feed a whole lot of neighbors who need a little help.

There are many ways you can support NHCFP in its mission to feed the hungry in your neighborhood: make a one-time or ongoing monetary donation, volunteer your time and expertise to the running of the food pantry, hold a food drive in your church/family/school/neighborhood, research political candidates' actions on hunger issues before you go out to vote, or simply let someone who needs help know that the New Hope Community Food Pantry exists.
Thank you to the Presence Resurrection Retirement Community for your generous ongoing donations of food and funds.
Feeding America's 2014 "Hunger in America" Report Published
We have been anticipating the release of the 2014 "Hunger in America" report, which is the largest undertaking of its kind in the US to examine hunger nationally. This report is a "must read" for anyone who wants to understand the reasons that NHCFP has been in operation for nearly 10 years.
Hunger exists even in places we least expect. Please consider making a monetary or most urgently-needed item donation to NHCFP to support us in helping our Northwest Side neighbors.
The full report is available from the Feeding America site, which is here.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository was a participant in the Hunger in America study. Their high-level results, representing need in Cook County, are available here. The Cook County results vary slightly from the overall nation-wide results, but the continuing need for emergency food supplies is very apparent.
Following are several key findings from the national report that resonate with NHCFP and our experiences serving the Northwest Side.

"Client households often survive on limited budgets and are confronted with choices between paying for food and paying for other essentials. These dilemmas can put households in the position of choosing between competing necessities."
"In addition to charitable nutrition assistance programs and making spending tradeoffs, many households also engage in a number of other coping strategies in order to feed their families."
Community Health Needs Assessment Report Prompts Action at NHCFPPresence Resurrection Medical Center (PRMC) published its Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) report of the state of health in the community served by NHCFP and surrounding suburbs. The study highlights health-related issues that affect many of our clients and others in our community.
In response to the findings of this report, NHCFP and PRMC have partnered in several initiatives where health, nutrition, and community needs intersect. In addition to providing select free basic health services to food pantry clients on a weekly basis, this partnership will result in some very exciting programs in future. Check back for updates throughout the year. NHCFP extends a very enthusiastic "THANK YOU" to the Park Ridge Farmer's Market and all of the farmers who donated fresh produce June-October 2014. There is such a demand amongst our clients for fresh fruits and vegetables, which are very difficult for many of them to either locate or afford. The ability to offer fresh produce helps NHCFP in its goal to provide clients with emergency food that supports its community health efforts as part of the CHNA team.
